It is a bold statement, but Relyon tip themselves as “the best beds in the world”, and you know what? We struggle to argue!
As a company who have been trading for over 150 years (est. 1858, don’t you know!) you’d be forgiven for thinking that they may be stuck in their ways, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. While their philosophy remains the same (“your comfort is our paramount priority”), they have very much moved with the times while still maintaining fantastically high standards.
A great example of this is their dedication to being green. That’s right, a bed company that is not only environmentally aware, but actually going above and beyond to reduce their environmental impact. As members of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP) Relyon make every effort to minimise the impact of their products on the environment. Here are a few examples of what Relyon are doing right in that area…
- Sourcing their wood from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified sources
- Recycling their waste wherever they can
- Keeping their packaging to an absolute minimum
- Using responsibly sourced or recycled packaging
- Only purchasing 100% green energy
Relyon are pretty forward thinking, huh?
The great news is that while Relyon have moved with the times, they still adopt many of the traditional manufacturing techniques that they started off with.
Their mattresses are hand-made and the skills used to create them have been passed on through generations. Their craftsmen train for years to gain the experience and skill that allows Relyon to call themselves creators of “the best beds in the world” with conviction.
Starting off a family venture, their original name was “Price Brothers & Co.” but in 1935 the move to “Relyon” was made as their objective was quite simply to create a bed that you could “rely on” for a good night’s sleep. Today, Relyon employ a workforce of almost 500 people, but their manufacturing HQ remains in Wellington, Somerset. They were also the first bed manufacturer to be awarded the accolade of the Production Guild Mark of the Worshipful Community of Furniture.
Back in 1858, Price Brothers & Co started off as wool merchants, and Relyon still have natural products at the core of their business. They understand that there isn’t a “one size fits all” mattress, so have developed a fantastic range of products in various tensions, spring counts, and combinations of fillings. Many Relyon mattresses are finished with hand side stitching, and are brimming with layer upon layer of sumptuous natural fillings. They not only offer options of fillings such as silk, wool and cashmere, but also memory foam and latex.
As well as their fantastic mattresses, Relyon manufacture a great range of full divan beds and have expanded their range to include headboards and guest beds too. Many of the processes involved in creating Relyon divan bases are carried out by hand to offer your mattress the best support and life possible, while their headboards and guest beds are designed with style and ease of assembly at the forefront.
