Bed industry’s ‘Oscars’ success for Land of Beds

We’re delighted to announce that Land of Beds has been ‘Highly Commended’ in the Independent Retailer of the Year category at the National Bed Federation’s Bed Industry Awards 2015-16.

The ‘Oscars’ of the sleep industry recognise the excellent work of bed manufacturers, suppliers and retailers over the past 12-18 months.

They were presented at the Bed Show Gala Dinner at the Telford International Centre on Tuesday 22 September.

Mike Murray, our Director, said: “This is the third time Land of Beds has been commended in the last four years, which really cements our business as the leading independent retailer in the UK.

‘The judging panel was a ‘Who’s Who’ of the bed industry and included – among others – Ebrahim Patel, President of the National Bed Federation and owner of Vogue Beds and Limelight Beds.

‘I am particularly pleased with their feedback on our “excellent branding, impressive online performance and exceptional marketing skills”.

‘To be ‘Highly Commended’ in 2015 is fantastic external recognition for Land of Beds, and I am proud to share this success with my family and all our staff.”

Formed in 1974 by Mike’s grandfather, Harold Murray, Land of Beds is a proud family business, now in its third generation.

We sell on average around 1,000 products per month and work with the brightest and best talents in the industry to bring new product lines forward.

This year’s Bed Show was a welcome opportunity to sample some of the most innovative products on the marketplace – many of which will be coming to our flagship showroom in Helsby, via the new distribution centre we opened in Runcorn earlier this year.

BBC 2 Dragon Dens’ star and Leicestershire entrepreneur Hilary Devey unveiled her debut collection for Duvalay – the company she invested in during her two-year stint on the hit show.

“Anyone who has watched Dragons’ Den will know Hilary is all about glamour!” says Caroline Murray, our Marketing Director.

“She has channelled this into a gorgeous collection, which marries comfort and style. Plus, we love that her hand-finished range of mattresses, bedsteads and divans is manufactured in the north in Gomersal, Yorkshire!”

One of our personal highlights from this year’s show was meeting ‘The Haymaker’ British boxing legend David Haye.

“David was attending the show to talk about the importance of sleep in sport; something we feel very passionately about too,” adds Mike. “Studies have shown that split-second decision-making can suffer with poor quality sleep; whereas a good night’s sleep is proven to improve accuracy.”
